Apollo Anniversary Gala at the Science Museum

As the Event Venue Manager for the Science Museum, I had the honour of leading and managing all venue logistics for a prestigious Apollo Anniversary Gala, hosted by Christina Korp, Director of Space for a Better World. This historic celebration welcomed 300-400 distinguished guests, including astronauts and space enthusiasts, to commemorate a monumental moment in space history. The event featured a reception in the Exploring Space gallery and a gala dinner in the iconic Making the Modern World gallery, perfectly combining the museum’s space artefacts with cutting-edge production and catering.

The venue’s space-themed galleries were essential in creating the historic and epic experience envisioned by the client. Exploring Space hosted the reception, where artefacts like spacecraft and satellites set the tone for the evening, enhanced by atmospheric lighting and a custom PA system for background music. Guests then transitioned to Making the Modern World for a stunning dinner beneath historic exhibits, including the 1907 Eilean Glass lighthouse. White Light, our AV partner, created bespoke staging around the lighthouse, featuring dual projection screens for content and image magnification (IMAG). A launch sequence was specially designed to start the awards ceremony, honouring astronauts, while live music performances captivated the audience.

Rocket Food catered the event with a cosmic-themed menu, serving canapés on custom-made trays and a three-course dinner that delighted the senses. Guests were treated to dishes like Cornish sea bass, roast Barbary duck, and summer berry macarons, perfectly aligned with the evening's interstellar theme. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with guests praising the unique ambiance created by the museum’s exhibits and the flawless execution of the event. Christina Korp highlighted the museum’s appeal, saying: “If you want to have a truly memorable event, then there is no better place to hold it than at the Science Museum. Our gala guests have continued to rave about it for weeks.” This event showcased the museum’s ability to combine history, innovation, and exceptional service for an unforgettable celebration.
