Hosting the 4th Summit for Space Sustainability

As the Event Venue Manager for the Science Museum, I had the privilege of leading and managing all venue departments and overseeing the planning of all venue logistics for the 4th Summit for Space Sustainability. Hosted by the Secure World Foundation and the UK Space Agency on 22-23 June 2022, this landmark hybrid event welcomed approximately 400 in-person guests and over 200 online attendees. Highlights included a keynote address by HRH The King (then Prince of Wales) and the presence of renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who filmed an episode on space sustainability during the summit.

The Science Museum’s Illuminate and Exploring Space provided the ideal settings for this prestigious event. Illuminate’s 5th floor was configured with theatre-style seating and a stage for keynote addresses and panel discussions, while the 4th floor was set up with round tables to foster networking and smaller panel sessions. Exploring Space added an inspiring dimension to the reception, allowing guests to connect among iconic space artefacts, perfectly aligning with the summit's theme. My role was central in coordinating these spaces, ensuring all departments delivered seamlessly, from AV support by White Light to catering by Moving Venue. I worked closely with the clients to tailor the logistics, ensuring the event ran smoothly and exceeded expectations.

Attendee feedback was exceptionally positive, with many noting the venue’s central London location, seamless execution, and inspiring environment. HRH The King’s keynote speech and Neil deGrasse Tyson’s participation elevated the event’s prestige, while the museum’s iconic setting provided a memorable backdrop. Krystal Azelton, Director of Space Applications Programs at Secure World Foundation, expressed her satisfaction: “Illuminate is spacious and flexible to accommodate various set-ups, whilst Exploring Space is perfect for any STEM-related events. The staff were all very friendly, punctual, and professional.” This event showcased the Science Museum’s excellence in hosting high-profile events and the importance of meticulous venue management in achieving success.
